What is a step-parent adoption?
A step-parent adoption is actually one of the most common types. It’s when a person seeks to adopt the biological child of their spouse. Now, once a step-parent does adopt that child, then the non-custodial parent loses all rights to the child, time-sharing, and also doesn’t have the responsibility of child support. Sometimes a step-parent adoption also has to include a termination of parental rights, which the step-father could show by showing that the non-custodial person abandoned the child.
